As with all tools you'll be relying upon, most preppers demand a machete that they know isn't going to bend, break, or chip when it's performing the jobs expected of it.
However, buying a machete that fills these needs is much easier said than done.
Not only do you need a blade that's tough, but you also want a handle that's comfortable for hours of work, especially if the machete is the primary blade you'll be depending upon.
Along with these two important factors, you must also consider the work you expect your machete will be most likely to perform. A machete intended for slicing through the jungle brush isn't going to have the same blade shape as one that's made to handle chopping tasks as well.
With all these things to consider, you may be so inclined to craft your own machete from scratch in your workshop.
If that's the case, check out this step-by-step video on the next page that will explain the ins and outs of this task.

Check out the bushmaster tools… see the edged hook on the backside? Adding these to the spine of any machete will help trail through vines in less time. Ever tried to cut through a blackberry patch?
